As we wind down the second year of living with the “new normal”, we want to thank you for being part of our extended East Side family. Whether you’re a student, parent, teacher, administrator, volunteer, donor, or community member, we hope you enjoy this look back at the successes we had together in 2021 and a glimpse of what’s to come...

Crab Feed 2.0

After a pandemic interrupted everyone’s plans, our annual crab feed fundraiser returned in March with a hybrid grab-n-go format featuring fresh food, fun entertainment, and a celebration of East Side student success. More than 170 delicious dinners were distributed through contactless pickup, and guests tuned in to enjoy a virtual event on Zoom.

Look for news about our next Crab Feed in early 2022!

College In My Future

In May, we hosted a series of interactive, multilingual informational sessions about the Spartan East Side Promise, a program that provides guidance, mentoring, scholarships, and a new college savings program to students in East Side Alliance school districts.

Students and their families had an opportunity to learn more about how to get involved in this exciting and innovative program.

New Superintendent Reception

This year, East Side Union High School District welcomed new Superintendent Glenn Vander Zee, and we were honored to introduce him to community leaders with a meet-and-greet at House Family Vineyards in August.

Scholarship Awards

Thanks to generous support from the House Family Foundation, Excite Credit Union, Soul Sports Focus, County Supervisor Otto Lee, the Silicon Valley Education Foundation, and individual donors, we were able to award $31,000 in scholarships to East Side graduates attending San José State through the Spartan East Side Promise program.

The scholarship award winners were recognized during a special online event in September.

Hall of Fame Dinner

And just in case you missed it, the ESUHSD Thomas P. Ryan Hall of Fame Class of 2021 was formally inducted as part of a fantastic dinner ceremony at the Hayes Mansion in November.

We also recognized tech pioneer and philanthropist David "Dave" House for his support of East Side students.

Thanks to more than 300 guests and all of our sponsors for making this biennial event a huge success!

As we look ahead to 2022, we invite you to SAVE THE DATE for our inaugural Spartan East Side Promise Golf Tournament on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Coyote Creek Golf Club in Morgan Hill. This exciting event will benefit ESUHSD students attending San José State.

Stay tuned to eastside-fund.org/golf for ticket and sponsorship information — coming soon!

We wish you a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year.
