Professor Emeritus of Education, Stanford University & Former President, California State Board of Education
Michael W. Kirst is the longest serving President in the history of the California State Board of Education. He is currently an Emeritus Professor of Education at Stanford University.
Before joining Stanford, Dr. Kirst held several positions with the federal government, including Staff Director of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Manpower, Employment and Poverty, as well as Director of Program Planning and Evaluation for the Bureau of Elementary and Secondary Education. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the East Side Education Foundation.
Dr. Kirst earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Dartmouth College, and his M.P.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University.
